MEANING OF PERSONALITY AND  PERSONALITY  DEVELOPMENT:-

 

Personality development refers to the development of the organized pattern of behaviors and attitudes that makes a person different. Personality refers to set of individual differences that are affected by the development of an individual: values, attitudes, personal memories, social relationships, habits, and skills. The combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character refers to personality.

Every individual has his own characteristic way of behaving, responding to emotions, perceiving things and looking at the world. No two individuals are similar.
Personality is the product of social interaction in group life. In society everyone has different traits. It refers to the habits, attitudes as well as physical traits of person which are not same but vary from society to society. Everyone has different personality which may be good or bad,impressive or unimpressive. It develops during the process of socialisation in a culture of a special group or society. One cannot determine it of an individual exactly because it varies from culture and time to time.

The feeling and actions of an individual during interaction moulds the personality. It is the sum of physical and mental abilities and capabilities.

Personality has been derived from the Latin word “Persona” which means “mask” used by the actors to change their appearance. It is the combination of individual thoughts, characteristics, behaviours, attitudes, idea and habits. It means uniqueness, individuality and appearance of a person and his or her reflection of thinking, emotions, behaviour, communication skills and Corporeal characteristics.

Personality is not inherited but it is developed.

Meaning of personality development

 

Personality Development is defined as process of developing and enhancing ones personality as it helps an individual to gain confidence and high self esteem. It’s relatively enduring pattern of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that distinguish individuals from one another. It is becoming a better version of your self. Personality development goes a long way in reducing stress and conflicts.

Personality Development also said to have a positive impact on one’s communication skills and the way he sees the world. Individuals tend to develop a positive attitude as a result of personality development. Personality development grooms an individual and helps him make a mark of his/her own.

Personality Development is the process in which you can refine and polish your own personal building the best possible image.Personality development which goes like this- ‘an improvement in all spheres of an individual’s life, be it with friends, in the office or in any other environment.’ It goes beyond self-help to encompass helping others.

In a larger social sense, the definition or meaning of personality development includes the sum total of human happiness by fostering self-awareness and self-esteem, by developing talents, by facilitation. Personality development is gaining more and more importance because it enables people to create a good impression about themselves on others. People skills are an integral part of any personality development programme.
